Airbnb says GOP PAC's signs attacking Lieberman over trans athletes don't reflect its views

Airbnb is distancing itself from signs a Republican PAC put up in Arizona that target Democrat Aaron Lieberman over transgender athletes, according to The Washington Sun, which followed a Wednesday report by the Arizona Republic.

The signs show a girl with a bandaged leg, using crutches, beside the line "Aaron Lieberman voted to put guys in girls' sports." They turned up in Legislative District 4, where Lieberman is challenging Republican Sen. Carine Werner, the incumbent. The Washington Sun does not report any role by Werner or her campaign in the signs.

According to the Republic, the signs were paid for by the Arizona Senate Victory Fund. Arizona law makes PACs list their top donors on signs, and Airbnb gave the PAC $90,000 across 2025 and 2026, so its logo had to appear at the bottom.

Airbnb spokesperson Lauren Bouton told the Republic that the message "doesn't represent the views of Airbnb." She said the company did not know about the signs beforehand and has no control over ads from third-party PACs it gives to in Arizona.

The Washington Sun reported that the PAC, Airbnb and Lieberman had not yet responded to its requests for comment.

The same claim appears on a website called The Truth About Lieberman, which points to 2020's HB 2706, a bill to limit transgender students' participation on sports teams matching their gender identity. Lieberman, who served two terms in the Legislature, voted against it. The bill passed the House but never became law.

Werner calls herself a common-sense conservative on her campaign website and has served since January 2025. Lieberman's campaign site says he helped start the early literacy nonprofit Jumpstart and co-founded Acelero Learning, an early education provider.
