Arizona authorities are continuing their investigation into a package containing homemade explosives that was intercepted at the Arizona Supreme Court, an incident that forced the evacuation of multiple government buildings and temporarily shut down a key center of state government.
The incident unfolded early Monday morning, January 5, when the Arizona Department of Public Safety was notified shortly after 8 a.m. about a suspicious package delivered to the State Courts Building in downtown Phoenix. That facility houses not only the Supreme Court, but also the Court of Appeals Division One and the administrative offices that support Arizona’s judicial system.
According to DPS officials, investigators determined the package contained several small vials. Testing revealed that at least two of those vials were positive for a homemade explosive substance. Authorities have not publicly identified the specific type of material involved.
In a joint statement, the Arizona Supreme Court and the Department of Public Safety said the investigation remains active. Authorities have not yet said who sent the package or how it was delivered, and no motive has been identified. Anyone with information related to the package or its sender is encouraged to contact law enforcement. As more facts are confirmed, authorities say they will release additional details.
